Each June, the Northern Utah Chamber Coalition (NUCC) brings together regional business leaders, subject matter experts, public officials, and community partners to identify and prioritize the most critical needs facing Northern Utah. Through a collaborative planning process, the coalition develops a shared legislative and policy agenda centered on regionally significant projects—initiatives that promote economic development, address infrastructure and workforce needs, and enhance the overall well-being of the communities north of Salt Lake City. This collaborative approach ensures that the region speaks with a unified voice on the issues that matter most.
For many years, communities throughout Northern Utah often pursued legislative priorities independently, and at times in competition with one another. While each community sought to advance its own interests, this approach occasionally limited opportunities to secure support for projects that would have provided broader regional benefits. Recognizing the need for a more unified approach, community and business leaders posed a simple but transformative question: How can Northern Utah work together? That question sparked a conversation among regional stakeholders and led to the formation of the Northern Utah Chamber Coalition (NUCC). Shortly thereafter, Northern Utah legislators and Chamber leaders convened to establish a collaborative framework focused on advancing priorities that would strengthen the region as a whole.
One of NUCC's earliest successes came during the economic recession of the early 2010s. At the time, Weber State University sought to expand its Davis Campus, but funding for the project was uncertain. After evaluating the regional impact of the expansion, NUCC identified the project as its highest legislative priority. By presenting a united voice and demonstrating how the investment would benefit businesses, students, and communities throughout Northern Utah, the coalition successfully secured state funding.
Remarkably, it was the only public higher education building funded during that legislative session, illustrating the strength and effectiveness of a coordinated regional advocacy effort.
Today, the Northern Utah Chamber Coalition serves as a model for regional collaboration. Supported collectively by the Chambers of Commerce throughout Northern Utah, NUCC advocates for projects and public policy initiatives that provide meaningful benefits across multiple communities rather than serving a single jurisdiction.
Each June, coalition members convene to develop a unified public policy agenda for the upcoming legislative session. Representatives from each Chamber present their highest priorities, beginning with previously unfunded initiatives before evaluating new and emerging regional needs. Through thoughtful collaboration, strategic prioritization, and a shared commitment to the long-term success of Northern Utah, NUCC continues to ensure the region speaks with one voice on the issues that matter most.
