About our speakers:
Kent Andersen
Davis County
Kent Andersen is the Director of Community & Economic Development for Davis County. He oversees economic development, planning/building, tourism, Davis Conference Center and Legacy Events Center.Kent earned his Master of Public Policy and Administration from CSU-Sacramento and his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from Utah State University.
After receiving his Bachelor, Kent spent seven years in California. He worked in the Eastern Sierra region for a non-profit community action agency in Bishop and a workforce housing development organization in the resort community of Mammoth Lakes. He then moved to Sacramento to pursue his master’s degree and to work for Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.
In 2011, his love of the outdoors and proximity to family drew him back to Utah. Prior to working for Davis County, he worked for Syracuse as the City Planner, spent six years as the Deputy Director for Community & Economic Development for Layton, and then as the Economic Development Director for West Jordan.
Jessica Merrill
Discover Davis
Jessica Merrill is the Tourism Director for Davis County, managing the destination organization Discover Davis- Utah’s Amusement Capital. A Utah native, Jessica was raised in Logan, Utah and has lived in various regions throughout the state. She graduated cum laude from Dixie State University with her B.S. in communications and has spent her career in the marketing and advertising industry. For 6 years she worked at an advertising agency as the Media Director where she managed many award-winning media campaigns with several Utah tourism organizations. Prior to joining the Davis County team, she managed a $35 million annual media strategy for Utah-based eCommerce giant Overstock.com. Because of Jessica’s love for the Tourism industry, she left the private sector in 2019 and seized the opportunity to lead the Tourism office for Davis County.In 2018, Jessica was honored as one of Utah Business magazine’s 30 Women to Watch. She was also responsible for the media plan and execution of the “Best Ad Campaign” awarded to the Garfield County Office of Tourism at the Utah Tourism Conference in 2015. Jessica currently serves on the Utah Tourism Industry Association board of directors and as President for the Utah Association of Destination Marketing Organizations.
Jessica loves traveling the world, hanging out in the mountains, reading as much as possible, attending concerts and sometimes playing the occasional round of golf. She and her daughter live in Kaysville with their three cats.
