About Our Speakers:
Thomas Knighton is entering his ninth year of teaching history at Davis High School—returning to the very halls where he once walked as a student after growing up in Kaysville and Layton. A graduate of Utah State University with degrees in History Education and Political Science Education, he also earned a master's degree in World History from American Public University.
Thomas has a gift for making history come alive through unforgettable stories, quick wit, and the kind of humor that keeps even high school students hanging on every word. His passion for history began with a childhood curiosity to understand the world around him—one question always leading to another incredible story. After serving a two-year mission in and around the Navajo Nation (where he jokes he learned "just enough of the language to be a problem"), he discovered his true calling: sharing those stories with others.
Known for his engaging teaching style, Thomas believes history isn't just about memorizing dates—it's about understanding people, learning from the past, and making sense of the world we live in today. He credits inspiring teachers for changing his own life and now strives to do the same for his students, helping them develop critical thinking skills while never forgetting that learning should be fun.
Thomas and his wife, Kaley, live in Layton with their three children. Get ready for a presentation filled with fascinating stories, unexpected laughs, and fresh perspectives that will have you looking at history—and today's world—in a whole new way.
